Yuuki Kuwabara
Born and raised in Kyoto, Japan.
Moved to New York at the age of 19 to study Anthropology and Art.
Graduated from Hunter College, New York.
After returning to Japan, she worked as a photographer, mainly in film and advertising as well as the director of various Art projects for immigrant youth in Japan and abroad.
Co-founded Gemini Films in 2020.
Mainly in charge of overseas projects and works daily on collaborations that transcend national boundaries and genres.

京都生まれ 双子座
京都とニュージーランドで高校時代を過ごした後、大学進学のため渡米。
ニューヨーク市立ハンターカレッジで人類学と芸術を学ぶ。
帰国後は映画と広告を中心に写真家として活動する傍ら、移民のユースを中心としたアートプロジェクトを国内外で実践。
2020年、Gemini Filmsを共同設立。
主に海外案件を担当し、国やジャンルを飛び超えたコラボレーションに日々取り組んでいる。

Selected Work
2009～2013
Organized photography workshops for children/youth of immigrants living in Japan, mainly in Shinjuku-Okubo, as a pioneering and creative project of the Japan Foundation ‘Solidarity project with Shinjuku-city’. Also continued to organize and plan an art workshop at community centers for children in Shinjuku, Brazilian schools in Tsukuba City.

2013
Supervised the filming/photography of “Mori no Nigiwai”, a traditional performing arts event and a regional revitalization project sponsored by JTB.
Aspiring young photographers from diverse countries participated the event to document traditional performing arts in Yamagata and Okinawa.

2016~2018 ‘Moving Story’ /Project management and Direction
International collective joint project (Funded by Toyota Foundation)
Invited artists to Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Penang for video workshops, art workshops, and dialogues on the theme of forming an inter-Asian international platform.

2019　’Life in Tokyo’ /Planning and Organized
Collaborative Project of nl/minato, Organized by SHIBAURA HOUSE and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands
Youths with roots in the Philippines and Nepal took photos of their daily life for a week and made a photo diary. Their stories were zine printed and shared at a discussion event held at SHIBAURAHOUSE

2016~2023

2009年～2013年
独立行政法人国際交流基金の先駆的・創造的事業「新宿区との連帯事業」として新宿大久保を中心に日本に住む移民の子供達に向けての写真ワークショップを実施。国際交流基金の継続した共催事業として新宿の児童館、茨城つくば市のブラジル人学校などにワークショップ講師として招聘される。

2013年 JTB主催 伝統芸能イベント、地域活性化事業　‘杜の賑い‘撮影監修
中国、ミャンマー、ネパールなど多国籍のカメラマン志望の子供たちが山形、沖縄の伝統芸能を
写真/映像撮影。

2016年～2018年　‘Moving Story’ プロジェクトマネージメント/ディレクション
国際連携共同プロジェクト（トヨタ財団助成事業）
アジア間国際プラットフォーム形成をテーマに東京、香港、ペナンの都市にてアーティストを招聘し、映像制作、アートーワークショップを展開。

2019年　nl/minato主催 ’ Life in Tokyo’ 企画運営
港区を舞台にしたSHIBAURA HOUSEとオランダ大使館の協働プロジェクト
フィリピンとネパールにルーツを持つユースにインスタントカメラで１週間
日常を撮影してもらい、zineを作成。港区を中心に配布。
